Yoto Player Review - Is It Worth It?

Yoto Player Review - Is It Worth It?

Hi!

Today I wanted to share with you a review for the Yoto.  We did a LOT of thinking before making this purchase as it seemed a lot of money for just one item.  If you are thinking about getting one, or haven't heard about the Yoto before, then I hope this review helps you!

So just to start off in the open I LOVE OUR YOTO PLAYER.

What is the Yoto and What Does it Do?

The Yoto  is a modern version of a CD player.  It is a screen free device which uses cards, similar to credit cards, to store audio.  Check out the video below to find out more!

Why I Love It

The Yoto is so simple to use; there is a button on the side which you hold to turn the Yoto on and cards are put in the slot at the top and start automatically from where they were last used (instead of always returning to the beginning).  It doesn't matter if cards are inserted backwards, forwards or upside down, the Yoto will recognise it and start playing.   At just 14 months my daughter was able to slot the cards in and understood that made them play.

The volume can be controlled by the dial on the top left and the dial on the top right can be used to skip through different tracks or chapters.  There is a daily podcast, which older listeners may enjoy, and a radio option available.

What I REALLY love is that the Yoto allows my daughter freedom and independence to choose what she listens to without me having to worry.  The broad range of cards available means I have been able to choose music and stories which suit her interests (MOG!) and her current stage of development.  It gets used every single day and is 100% one of my top buys!

Yoto vs Toniebox

A close competitor to the Yoto is the Toniebox.   I did spend a lot of time trying to decide between the two but eventually went for the Yoto for several reasons;

  • The Yoto has a greater initial cost to buy the Player, BUT the audio cards are much cheaper than the the Tonies (the audio for the Toniebox).
  • I felt the Yoto Player would be suitable for wider age range, as the cards feel mature enough that an 8 year old would still like them.  I thought the Tonies could be outgrown quicker as they are similar to small toys.
  • At the time we bought it, the range of books available on the Yoto seemed more appropriate to a wide age range than those available on the Toniebox.
